ANIMATED FILM
2024
An explorative film contemplating the emergence of worldbuilding and virtual environments.
Commissioned by Co-Matter and WeTransfer, Networked Worlds is a visual film created as part of an open call research project focused on world-building as a creative practice.
Networked Worlds explored the concept of virtual world-building as a starting point for a new existence, a way to visualise alternate societies and play with the possibilities of what could exist from a positive perspective.
We saw the concept of worldbuilding as a response to the multiple crises of our time, as well as a starting point for a new existence.
Worldbuilding as an emergent creative practice allows us to visualise alternate societies and explore the possibilities of those futures existence from a positive perspective.
Our worlds were built in Unreal Engine as a representation of worldbuilding culture, the game engine allowed us to efficiently create hyper-real sprawling landscapes where species and cultures could co-exist.
The Networked Worlds film was showcased across WeTransfers online platforms, with the open call receiving hundreds of applicants.
The final iteration of Networked Worlds was a 96 page zine created by Co-Matter, that investigates how artists and creatives are building worlds to find meaning and belonging.
